I began the lesson with reviewing the purpose of this assignment. I wanted my students to understand they were completing the anchor charts to show others what they have learned about multiplication. Students will be able to show others that there are many ways to solve a multiplication equation. Then, students met with their writing groups today for ten minutes to continue brainstorming.
I began informal conferencing today with each group. I reviewed each groups thinking and asked clarifying questions. I inquired about what makes their strategy work. Students were expected to tell me how the parts of a multiplication sentence influenced their strategy. Learners were able to explain their understanding verbally and written. Today I noticed students working great together to show their knowledge. I noticed that each learner is developing their mathematical independence. I am working to ensure students are building their confidence while mastering math skills. Assuring that learners believe in themselves is a way I can make certain they are making sense of taught strategies.
