The implementation of this Individual Language Arts Assignment has motivated me to discover various ways to writing and mathematics. I have been teaching about multiplication for about 30 days. Therefore, I wanted to know what each student has learned about this multiplication. Each student was given an index card with the purpose of explaining anything they have learned about multiplication. I wrote "What I have learned about multiplication..." and each student completed the writing prompt.
Reading weekly texts for this class has shown me the importance of providing writing opportunities daily. Also, I am now well-informed about not focusing solely on the mechanics of writing, but the message of the text. However, this is easier said than done for some teachers and students. I ensure that my students know that spelling will not affect their grade on an assignment. As a result, students communicated their understanding of multiplication. The student responses showed me the each student has developed a great understanding of multiplication. This task demonstrated that independent learners are developing in my classroom. I am going to post the responses of each student because they show various levels of mathematical understanding.
I am still wondering "How can I merge shared writing and mathematics?"
